Mimi

This is the second Moth to move in to my hive! She came to me as a grub and has since made herself properly at home here!

Though she's small in size she's got a big personality. She seems to always know what's going on and curiousity often takes her into all kinds of adventures and trouble. Though she and Barr mostly get along just fine and seem to compliment each other as a dynamic duo in the hive, Barr has gotten a little more on the fence toward Mimi since she got her grubs. I've had many a talk with Mimi about the appropriate way to play with the grubs and that some places are far to dangerous to explore for a young grub who cannot yet fly. The boys love her thoug, and especially Frey has gotten into quite a bit of trouble on their adventures.

When visiting you can be sure to get a cuddle from this one, though you should also be aware not to carry any loose valuables, because she's not always capable to resist petty thievery when something shiny catches her liking.

Mimi arrived today! She was sent with a special animal courier but that didn’t stop me from worrying. She was packed in a cardboard box. There was an envelope taped to the top but I laid that aside to immediately check that she was okay. And she was! Snug as a bug in a rug! In an old plastic film canister with air holes and all bunched up in cotton. A waft of honey and something cool, earthy, and quite subtle hit me and I couldn’t keep from breathing it in an extra time and smile at the pleasant scent. She squinted at the light when I opened the lid and looked like she had a good sleep. She quickly perked up when she saw her new environment and got some squash and one of those lemon merengues though and seemed very curious at her surroundings. But right as I suggested we go out to look at her new hive she seemed a little worried and started to dig in the cotton of her travel container. First I thought she got a little shy, but it looked more like she was looking for something. I remembered the letter and while keeping an eye on her I opened the envelope. I noticed there was a separate small but dense object in the envelope wrapped in tissue that I held in my hand as I read the letter.

Rolling up the tissue I found the polished citrine piece. It’s cold and heavy and I can see why it’s her treasure. I called her name and showed her the gem and her face immediately lit up. When I put it with her she rubbed up against it and started to push it into the film canister.

"No not there" I told her, and while she gave me a sceptical look she let me pick her and the gem up.

"I'm gonna show you your new home, and while I'm sure that little cannister is very cozy I think you'll see that your new hive has plenty of cozy spots as well, and way more space for you to collect things too!" I explained to her as we made our way towards the hive. Her initial scepticism changed to a expectant curiosity the closer we got.

She had an absolute blast exploring the hive. She vas very excited once she saw Barr, but I'd already promised Barr to try make the introduction slow and Mimi seemed to understand even though she got a little dissapointed. I assured her Barr would come and say hi soon enough and distracted her by showing of the diffrent living spaces she could choose from. She climbed all over, dragging her gem with her to all the places just to see how it would feel. In the end I think she settled for the birdbox where she spent some time admiring the pictures and looking out at the surroundings (and trying to see where Barr was) from the balcony.

”Here comes the girl! She’ll probably be full of energy and curiosity after the long sleep she had while travelling but she’ll calm down some eventually. I warn you though that while making herself at home in your hive she might have a tendency to steal. She’s got the hoarding from her mother, and she mainly collects crystals and stone, but in the beginning she quickly collected all kinds of things to make up her little hoard, including gravel and coal, but also coins, jewellery, sheer plastic pieces and coloured glass ornaments. The advice I’ll give you is to go to a second hand and buy a handful of shiny objects or stones to make sure she doesn’t steal from the neighbours or your other Moth Pixies. I’ve sent you her most priced piece (and the only such that was actually hers she had in her old hoard), a Citrine pear. If she has that with her she’ll feel at home even if the hive is new. Good luck! I’m sure she’ll find herself right at home.”

I’m so excited to tell you about the great news! A week ago a friend abroad told me that due to a move they cannot keep all their moth pixies. While that of course is very sad the good thing about this is that one of her tiny friends is now moving over here to my little hive! I’ve been told she’s a curious and sociable little grub, but I’ll introduce her properly once she arrives. I’m so excited, and of course a little nervous about wether she’ll feel at home in her new hive and what Barr will think of a new little swarm-mate. But I do believe some friends is just what Barr needs and on paper I think we have a quite good chance of success!
